Trendy new sport Beachtennis would be ready to enter the CSIT

CSIT tennis chairman Harald Burghardt accepted gladly the invitation of the International Beachtennis Federation (IFBT) recently and attended the European championships in Barcelona in order to get new impressions and to negotiate a cooperation of the two federations.

This federation - purely amateur - was founded in Ravenna/Italy in 1995 and is presided by the Italian Giandomenico Bellettini (President) and the Catalan Joan Egea (Vice President). Beachtennis is a new sport which would perfectly fit into the concept of a traditional "Sport for All" federation as the CSIT. In addition to beach-volleyball and beach wrestling this would be another trendy sport on the beach within the CSIT.

For this year´s IFBT European championships nine courts were set up on the beach. Among the 135 participants coming from Spain, Italy, Greece, France and Germany, the winners were determined in eight categories.

In the next months the IFBT will give all information about coming beachtennis activities to the CSIT office and the invitations will be forwarded to our CSIT member unions. Should this initiative appeal to the CSIT community, beachtennis will be integrated in the CSIT Tennis Technical commission via the IFBT. Own CSIT competitions will then be planned.
