CANCELLATION of the CSIT World Sports Games in Rio 2013

 

Dear International Friends!

On behalf of the Executive Committee of our organisation I have to bring the following information to your knowledge:

The Brazilian member union SESI has changed its leadership on three management levels and our colleagues Rui Campos, Eloir Simm and Carlos Henrique Fonseca are no longer working for the SESI National Department.

The new leadership of SESI-Brazil in person of Superintendent Renato Caporali informed me at the beginning of the Executive-Committee-Meeting this week in Bern - Switzerland - that SESI is not willing to organize the CSIT World Sports Games 2013 any more. Mr. Caporali announced the cancellation of the contract between CSIT and SESI, signed in front of 150 international delegates during the last CSIT Congress in Rio de Janeiro 2011. This is definitely a strong violation of our core values trust, fair play and friendship!

SESI adduced two main reasons:

1. The high accommodation costs for the participants (due to fact that SESI has officially offered to cover all costs), which SESI obviously cannot afford any more.
2. SESI can not guarantee safety for the participants during their stay in Rio in August 2013.

I invited SESI to find solutions to run "our Games" as foreseen 2013, acceptable for both sides. SESI denied! We therefore reserve the right to take legal steps against SESI.

Dear Friends, I feel very sorry about this new situation; thousands of athletes worldwide have been looking forward to this event. The Executive Committee is working hard on finding a solution trying to attract another Host-City for the organization of the 3. CSIT World Sports Games 2013 as quick as possible. We will inform you about relevant decision.
